Hchom: A Goblin’s Feral Aesthetic

autumnadventures_marianchurchland

Hchom is cartoonist Marian Churchland’s simple blog of things her goblin-self loves and wants. “Hchom” is the sound of something tasty being devoured. What makes is so special in my heart is her unabashed fantasy adventure aesthetic. She covets “shinies”, dapper men’s fashions, and mouth-watering feast spreads of venison haunches, honey, cheese wheels and dense, dark, seedy breads. Her drawings transport me to another world where everything is leather, wool, wood and stone. It is a beautiful example of materials and aesthetics weaving the kind of world we long for. It is rustic, elegent, feral and refined.
